Consultation

Puggle Psychology provides consultation to individuals, families, schools, organisations, and other professionals seeking psychological guidance, advice, or support.

A psychological consultation focuses on professional input and recommendations, rather than formal assessment or diagnosis. Consultations are suitable when support, clarification, or guidance is needed without commencing a full psychological assessment.

A consultation does not initiate a formal diagnostic assessment process and does not involve standardised diagnostic testing. If an assessment is recommended, this is discussed separately, and an intake appointment is required before assessment services commence.

Where helpful, consultations may include written summaries or recommendations. Any additional written work is billed separately and does not constitute a diagnostic assessment report.

Other things a psychological consultation can involve:

  • Clarifying concerns, goals, and priorities
  • Reviewing or interpreting existing information or reports
  • Advising on appropriate supports, strategies, or reasonable adjustments
  • Problem-solving around wellbeing, behaviour, or daily functioning
  • Providing guidance and psychoeducation to build understanding and confidence
  • Supporting planning, transitions, or review of current supports
  • Liaising with other professionals or services, with consent

What we can do

Insight Session

A 30-minute exploratory appointment for individuals or families who are unsure whether or what type of psychological assessment would be helpful. It provides space to discuss concerns, explore assessment options, and consider possible next steps before deciding whether to proceed. A brief summary letter can be provided on request and is billed separately (30 minutes at the document rate).

Consultation for Individuals/Families

Our consultation service supports individuals and families to better understand everyday needs and identify practical strategies that support wellbeing and effective functioning. This may include reviewing relevant reports or documents, discussing concerns with the individual and/or family members or carers, and, where appropriate, observing functioning in relevant settings. The goal is to provide clear, evidence-informed recommendations that guide everyday strategies, support planning, and collaboration with other professionals.

Consultation for Schools

Our consultation service for schools and kindergarten/childcare may include reviewing reports and documents, meeting with staff, speaking with families, and observing the child in their learning environment. We work alongside school teams to develop practical, evidence-informed recommendations that support classroom strategies, Individual Education Plans (IEPs), behaviour planning, and whole-school decision-making.

Disability Inclusion Profile (Vic. Gov. schools)

Support for schools and families participating in the Victorian Disability Inclusion Profile. This service provides professional input about a student’s everyday needs and the school adjustments that may help them across the six domains of the Profile. It may include reviewing reports, talking with school staff, and observing the student at school. The aim is to provide clear, practical recommendations in a written report that help schools plan support and prepare for the Tier 3 Profile funding.

Consultation for Non-School Settings

We offer consultation for organisations and professionals supporting children and young people outside the school environment. This may include reviewing reports, discussing a child’s needs with service providers, and offering guidance on strategies that promote participation, communication, and wellbeing. Our aim is to provide clear, practical recommendations that help create supportive and inclusive environments across community, home, and service settings.
